Waterloo appoint from within

Dave continues as club Secretary

The silly season is already in full swing with high profile management jobs changing hands and Waterloo Rovers are the latest to confirm that their new boss is Dale Roberts.

Rovers announced that they have promoted from within to replace first team manager Dave Proctor, who will remain at the club as secretary.

“I am very pleased to hand over to Dale as I proposed him,” said Proctor, who is also known as ‘Mr Waterloo’ due to his incredible service to the club. “He was my captain when I was in charge of our successful reserve team and took over from me when I moved up to the first team.

“Last season he was manager of our young Colts team and we feel he is the right man to take us forward. He also has the backing of the players.”

Proctor made no secret of the fact that he did not particularly enjoy last season and handed in his notice following the club’s end of season bash.

“I can now sit back and relax knowing it is in safe hands. I will remain as club secretary and that’s a big job on its own!”

Roberts said the decision was a “no brainer” and has jumped at the opportunity to manage the club.

“Obviously I'm delighted to have been given the position,” he said. “I've been associated with the club in various capacities for the best part of 10 years so it was a no brainer when I was offered the post.

“I'm confident the current squad is capable of improving on last season’s finish but without doubt I'll also be looking to add quality wherever possible.”

Meanwhile, Waterloo Reserves is looking for a new manager after Neil Breeze decided to step down to concentrate on playing. Anyone interested should contact Proctor on 07999685437. The deadline is June 13.
