RHAYADER ARE CHAMPIONS

By Phil Woosnam

Draw is sufficient to win League

The league title went right down to the wire with Rhayader's 0-0 draw at home to LLanidloes was sufficient to win them the League title and gain promotion back to the Cymru Alliance.
The match was played in front of a 400+ crowd and was an excellent advert for the Spar League itself. Defences were very much on top throughout and chances were few and far between with Eifion Price and Dave Jones more than capable of stopping the efforts that came their way.
The final whistle came as a great relief to the home supporters who were much in evidence when League Chairman Richie Jenkins handed over the Spar League trophy to captain Matthew Lewis to begin a night of celebration at the Weirglodd.
The League will run next season with one fewer team at least as Llanrhaeadr will maintain their place in the Cymru Alliance whilst Rhayader will be promoted to join them. Welshpool will keep their place in Spar League 1.
