PROMOTION & RELEGATION ISSUES

Two clubs apply to join the Spar 2nd Division

Two clubs namely Penybont Utd and Hay St Mary's have applied to join the Spar 2nd Division next season which leads us to the debate on promotion and relegation.

Much depends upon Llanrhaeadr in the Cymru Alliance League because if they stay up for next season, it would appear that there will then be no relegation for clubs in Division 1 as there is an existing vacancy and it is anticipated that one of Rhayader, Montgomery or Newbridge-on-Wye will be promoted to the Alliance by finsihing in one of the top two positions.

This would then enable two clubs to be promoted from the 2nd Division to the 1st at season end provided that their facilities are as per that divisions criteria.

If this were the case, then both applicants from the Mid Wales South could be promoted if they so wished with no club being relegated.

If Llanrhaeadr were to be relegated, then that would probably mean that one club would be relegated from Division 1 although this is not a certainty as both promoted clubs from the second division would have to meet the criteria and finish in the top two placings.

So, plenty to play for in the second part of the season with some interesting fixtures still to be played in both leagues.

Where next?
