League Cup with last gasp win over Barmouth & Dyffryn United.

Llansantffraid Village brought down the curtain of the 2022/23 season by capturing the MMP with Norman Lloyd Central Wales League Cup last night following a 2-1 victory over Barmouth & Dyffryn United F.C. (Official) at the Recreation Ground courtesy of a Matthew Williams double.

In what was a scrappy affair, the Saints broke the deadlock against the run of play, seven minutes before the interval, when Williams was on hand to convert a low cross from the left flank past Barmouth goalkeeper Tyler Andrews from close range.

The Magpies quickly responded and levelled the scores in first-half stoppage time when Shane Jones drove towards the Llansantffraid penalty area and fired a low shot past Dave Jones into the corner of the net.

The two teams enjoyed an intense battle after the interval but it appeared that the final would be heading towards an additional 30 minutes of play to decide the outcome of the silverware. However, Williams had other ideas and curled a 25 yard free-kick into the top corner of the net deep into stoppage time to spark the celebrations amongst his team mates and supporters before captain Khyam Wyton and goalkeeper Dave Jones received the trophy from former Caersws legend Graham Evans.
