The MMP Central Wales League was saddened to hear of the death of its Treasurer, Mr Edward Parry (right), of Llanidloes a week ago after battling a long illness at the age of 71.

League secretary Gareth Lloyd announced the sad news of the death of the Llanidloes based official.

Mr Lloyd said: "I have received the sad news that the treasurer of MMP Central Wales League Mr Edward Parry passed away over the weekend. As a mark of respect could all league clubs observe a minutes silence at all midweek and weekend matches."

Llanidloes Town Football Club, Mr Parry's hometown club, led the tributes.

A club statement read: "Everyone at the club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Edward Parry.

"Edward was a big part of Llanidloes Town FC over the years. He was a committee man and secretary and of course, first and foremost, a fan from a very early age.

"Ed went on to become a big part of the Central Wales Football Association and his contribution to football in the area was unsurpassed. He will be deeply missed by all."
