Bow Street appoint new manager

BATES BACK IN CHARGE AT BOW STREET.

Bow Street Football Club have wasted no time in appointing a new manager following the sudden resignation of Emyr Jones last Sunday.
Huw Bates, who was in charge for five seasons, has been reappointed after a sabbatical of one year!!
He has committed himself to one season, with Andrew Simkin as his assistant, with two other Bow Street stalwarts, Peter James and Phil Evans making up the management team.
For season 2012/2013, Andrew Simkin will succeed Huw as manager.

Chairman Wyn Lewis said, ‘I am absolutely delighted to have been able to make these appointments following the sudden departure of Emyr Jones.
Huw was a fantastic manager for the club for 5 years, and it is no secret that I did not want him to finish last year, but fully appreciated his reasons for doing so. He is hugely respected by everybody of all ages within the club, and also in the footballing community as a whole.
I understand totally his reasons for restricting his commitment to one season, and am also delighted to endorse the promotion of Andrew from the Reserves team management to first team assistant. He will be an excellent servant of the first team for many years to come. With Phil and Pete involved as well, I am delighted that we have created an element of continuity to the management structure, which should see us well served for years to come.
Obviously, with Andrew’s promotion, a gap exists in the management structure of the Reserves, which is to be filled by the elevation of senior players, Ian Frost and Danny Whiteway to assist Barrie Jones.
The most notable aspect of all these changes is that all the posts are filled by long standing servants of Bow Street. I believe that as a club, we have an unique community atmosphere and ethos, and these appointments further strengthen this.
I’d like to thank Emyr and Richard for their efforts during the last season, and wish them well in the future.’

Huw Bates said, “I’m absolutely thrilled with this completely unexpected opportunity to return as manager of the first team only 12 months after my first spell as manager. I’m also delighted to be working alongside my good friend Andrew who thoroughly deserves his chance with the first team after several years learning his trade with Bow Street Reserves.”

“I am also pleased to announce that the rest of our management team will be made up of experienced club stalwarts Peter James and Phil Evans who are both potential future managers of this club but as far as Andrew and myself are concerned, both still have a lot to offer on the pitch hence their appointments as player-coaches.”.

“I’m keen to stress that this will solely be a 12 month project for me in order to assist Andrew in his first year so that he hits the ground running when he takes over from me in a season’s time. I suppose the closest comparison in professional football is the arrangement Walter Smith had with Ally McCoist and just like Walter, I will be retiring indefinitely at the end of next season.”.

“If we can keep hold of the majority of last year’s squad including the promising under 17s that came to the fore at the end of last season then I’m confident we can be challenging for honours next year.”.

“I’m disappointed that Brains and Lukey are leaving us as I really felt that after last year’s transitional season they could have taken the club to new heights next year but I wish them all the best at Aberystwyth and on the flip side am grateful for the opportunity that has now presented itself to Andrew and myself.”.
