Presteigne's Matthews is Welsh Cup Player of the Round

New initiative by the FAW

Callum Matthews of Presteigne St Andrews FC has been awarded the Welsh Cup Player of the Round for the 1st Qualifying Round.
The Hereford-born 21 year old scored all four goals for the Spar Mid Wales League team in their 4-3 win over League rivals Newbridge on Wye last month.
The striker’s manager, Jamie Allen, was delighted to be told the news on Wednesday and said; “As a player, Callum is excellent with a great touch, electrifying pace and a great work ethic."
His first goal of the afternoon came from the penalty spot after his team-mate Liam Fletcher was fouled. The second goal was sublime chip over the keeper from 18 yards with the outside of his boot.
His hat-trick again came from the spot, after he was brought down in the box and the fourth and decisive match-winning goal came following a saved Fletcher shot, which Matthews was first to react to, tapping in from the six yard box.
Matthews and his Presteigne teammates will play their 2nd Qualifying Round match this Saturday away against Llanrhaeadr Ym Mochant (2:00pm), hoping to gain a place in the First Round.
Matthews will received a glass memento, which will be presented before a forthcoming home match and along with all of the other winners in subsequent rounds, the in-form forward will be invited to a presentation on the pitch at the Welsh Cup Final in May to celebrate his place in the FAW Welsh Cup Team of the Season 2015.
