PRESTEIGNE St ANDREWS FC

By Phil Woosnam

have issued a press release as follows

Presteigne St Andrews FC's manager Mark Weiland has resigned with immediate effect.

Mark took charge at Llanandras Park following the departure of Jamie Allen in the 2015-16 season.

Mark admitted the timing of the decision was not ideal as we are only three games into the new season but he feels the club needs a fresh approach going forward.

"I am disappointed as I was really looking forward to this season but sadly I wasn't able to bring in the players I wanted during the summer," he said.

"It is a great shame but I am no longer enjoying the job and, at 28, I really want to focus on playing," he said.

Presteigne's chairman Andrew Crowe said they had accepted Mark's resignation with great regret.

"Mark has worked really hard to try to turn things around during his time in charge but it just hasn't worked out for him," he said.

"We are all bitterly disappointed for him as he is a real clubman and we were all willing him to do well.

"Mark has been a long-time player, as well as a committee member and Reserve-team manager, while his family has had a long association with the club.

"We would stress this has been entirely Mark's decision and we are hoping he will continue to play for the club and maintain his place on the committee," he added.

Tom Ammonds will step up as caretaker manager as Presteigne have two games this week, including the Welsh Cup tie at home to Borth United on Saturday, 20 August.

Tom will be assisted by Dale Tomkins until the committee has had time to make a decision on the first-team manager's role.
